What is the Summer Scheme Programme?
Children and young people are referred to the Mencap Summer Scheme Programme via their Learning Disability A learning disability is to do with the way someone's brain works. It makes it harder for someone to learn, understand or do things. Social Worker A social worker is someone who can help you get the support you need. Social workers usually work for your local council A council is also called a local authority A local authority is also called a council. They are a group of people who make decisions about some of the things in the area where you live like schools, social care Social care means the services that give care and support to people who need it. (support for people), parks and dustbin collection. . They are a group of people who make decisions about some of the things in the area where you live. These include: schools, social care (support for people), parks and dustbin collection. . and should live within the Belfast Health and Trust area.
The provision is for those children and young people who cannot access any other summer school or service during the summer months.
The summer activity programme offers a specialised programme for children and young people aged 4-18 years old, with high support needs.
Activities are offered both at our Mencap Centre and out and about.
The scheme enables young people with a learning disability to enjoy age appropriate activities and encourages independence Independence means doing things on your own. Making your own choices. . It enables the young people to make new friends, build on existing friendships, grow in confidence and acquire or develop social and life skills.
*Please note you must be referred by a Learning Disability Social Worker to attend the Mencap NI Summer Scheme Programme and live in the Belfast Health Trust.
