What is a learning disability?

The answer is that it's different for every person who has one. But there are some things that are true for everyone with a learning disability, and some common (and not so common) conditions that will mean you have a learning disability.

Our no-nonsense information and resources will help you get to grips with learning disability.

Conditions associated with learning disability

As well as having a learning disability, a lot of people have other physical or emotional conditions, and may receive more than one diagnosis.

This could have an impact on the kind of support they and their families need in their day-to-day life.

You can find out more about some of the conditions that are closely associated with learning disability below.

About Learning Disability Week 2018

Learning Disability Week 2018 is from 18 to 24 June and is all about health - with a big focus on Treat me well.

We want this to be a chance for people with a learning disability and NHS staff to celebrate and share good practice, and to work together to improve care that isn't good enough.

In order to do this we've asked people to hold events in their local hospital in England and Northern Ireland throughout the week.
