Mencap NI provide a range of youth projects in Northern Ireland to support young people with a learning disability and autism.
Belfast Youth Club
The Belfast Youth Club is on every two weeks on a Friday evening for 14-18 year olds.
This is a chance for young people to get together in a safe space and socialise with their peers.
Youth club offers many different activities for young people to try such as games, sports and arts and crafts.
Over the last year, youth club has had to change the way it has been delivered as a response to Covid-19 and in line with government restrictions.
Throughout the pandemic, youth club members have met up online with staff and volunteers to play games, catch up and keep connected.
It has been really important to keep these connections for the young people during such a difficult time.
Online Movie Club
The Mencap NI Online Movie Club started during lockdown on the suggestion of a young person.
The movie club started as a new social outlet to bring together young movie fans whilst everyone was staying home. The movie club get together online twice a month.
Once to watch a movie online together and then again to have a chat about the movie.
It has been a great way to connect young people across all of Mencap NI’s youth projects.
Since starting the Movie Club have watched a wide range of movies together such as Matilda, Jumanji – welcome to the jungle, Zoolander, Spiderman into the Spiderverse , Clueless, Zootopia and more.
