As presenting partner of Parasport.org.uk, Toyota are working with Paralympics GB, Sport NI and Mencap NI to improve the quality and quantity of sports and activities available to people with impairments in Northern Ireland through the Toyota Parasport Fund.
The Toyota Parasport Fund is a UK-wide funding programme to improve the quality and quantity of sport and activities available to people with mental and physical impairments.
The Fund will enable the delivery of Mencap's Learning Disability Awareness Training across multiple sports and leisure facilities in Northern Ireland.
This training will be delivered by Mencap’s Disability Equality Officers who have first-hand experience of living with a learning disability.
The training will improve accessibility in sports and leisure facilities by providing staff within these facilities with a greater understanding and awareness of learning disability.
In addition, a selection of Toyota staff will be invited to attend training sessions that may be taking place within the vicinity of their Toyota dealership.

Margaret Kelly, Director of Mencap NI said:
“The Toyota Parasport Fund will help us to deliver training to make sports and leisure facilities across Northern Ireland, more accessible for people with a learning disability. People with a learning disability need to be included in their communities, sport and social activity is a great way for people to get involved and interact with people.”
By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Identify the barriers people with a learning disability can experience
- Understand common misconceptions and stigma associated with a learning disability
- Understand how to communicate effectively with people who have a learning disability
- Consider how a place of work can become more inclusive for people with a learning disability
